Sound Healing: Harmony of Sound and Vibration

Everything is in a state of vibration, from the electrons moving around the nucleus of an atom, to planets and distant galaxies moving around stars. As they’re creating movement, they are creating vibration, and this vibration can be perceived of as sound. So everything is creating a sound, including our bodies. Every organ, every bone, every tissue, every system of the body is creating a sound.

Sonic vibration was known to be the fundamental creative force in the universe. Ancient peoples have always known the effect that sound has on the body, mind and spirit. The use of sound as a healing technique dates back to prehistoric times, when shaman chanted and drummed to heal people. The ancient Egyptians certainly believed this, with their use of tuning forks and rods to reach immortality.

The basic principle of Sound Healing is that of Resonance. This is where we all agree that every object is in a state of vibration and therefore creates sound. We understand that everything is created through projected vibration on a carrier wave, each vibration has it's own resonant frequency and vibrates in cycles per second and has a tone or note. Sound can be converted into light, and light into sound. This implies that sound and its vibration, are mathematically tied to light. And if that is true, then an understanding of vibration could be paramount to understanding our reality.

Sound Healing is one of the most extraordinary and intriguing realms of new age practice in the 21st century. Rooted to indigenous origins, ancient cultures used drumming, dancing and singing to heal themselves and their communities in powerful healing ceremonies. The field of sound healing has become extremely powerful as we return to the ancient ways with our new found understandings of reality as imbued from our scientific explorations. And what we find about reality is nothing short of amazing. Science now tells us that everything is in motion, is vibrating, and thus, is producing some kind of frequency of sound. Whether we hear it or not is another story as the human ears' audio capacity is limited. We've all been moved by music to some capacity and often music accompanies our most cathartic moments in life. Perhaps we are feeling deeply inspired to create or overcome by emotions because of a recent heart-break (the heart breaks to open wider!). Music always seems to be a magical companion in those moments, whether it be to galvanize our passion to manifest our creativity or to help amplify our feelings so that we can process and release them better. Music plays the same role as some of the psychotropic plants do to shamanic cultures: keys to opening other realms of consciousness. Whatever the case, music is powerful and sound healing takes our awareness to a notion that with the right intention, music can be powerfully healing.
